Beirut Duty Free Nominated For Three Social Media Awards

Beirut Duty Free has received three nominations in the “Moodies,” the world’s first airport-specific digital, mobile and social media awards. The awards are being organised by TheMoodieReport.com, the world’s leading travel retail news website.

Beirut Duty Free has been shortlisted in following categories

Best Twitter Feed – Travel Retailer

Best YouTube – Campaign

Best Use of Social Media Overall – Airport Retailer

Over 160 submissions were received for the awards and Beirut Duty Free is short-listed alongside travel retailers such as World Duty Free Group, King Power Thailand, Lotte Duty Free and Dufry Brasil.  The winners will be announced next month.

Said Ciaran O’Neill General Manager Beirut Duty Free, “It’s a further endorsement of the work we have put into developing our social media presence over the last couple of years. We now have over 21,000 followers on Facebook alone, and our Flash Mob Dabke Dance has been watched over 4 million times on YouTube, a significant achievement for a single location airport retailer.

“We use Social Media to promote new brands in store, run competitions, listen to what our customers have to say, and often just to tell them what we’re up to. For example a recent Facebook post congratulated staff members that ran in the Beirut Marathon last weekend; we also posted a photo of our Employee of the month.

“We are very conscious that our customers choose to engage with us on Facebook and Twitter, so it’s important to strike a balance between social and business interaction. They don’t want to be bombarded with a constant stream of product and pricing information, there needs to be a fun element to it as well.

“Furthermore the majority of our customers may only visit our shops once or twice a year, so social media is the most cost effective and measurable tool in maintaining their awareness of the Beirut Duty Free brand and our great range of products,” he added.

Another ARI joint venture Delhi Duty Free is also in the running for a Moodie in the “Best Marketing Campaign – Airport/Retail” category.

Beirut Duty Free is managed by Phoenicia- Aer Rianta Management Company (PAM), a joint venture between Phoenicia Trading – Afro Asia and ARI.
